What is Tandem Skydiving?
Tandem skydiving is the easiest introduction to freefall parachuting as you are securely attached to your instructor until you have landed safely back at the landing area. Tandem skydiving requires very little training on behalf of the tandem student. Once you have been fitted with the correct harness and equipment you climb aboard an aircraft and begin your climb to altitude. Once the aircraft in position over the dropzone you and your instructor will move towards the exit and prepare to make your exit into freefall. Typically your exit from the aircraft will be between 10-13,500ft above the ground and you will accelerate sharply to around 120 mph and experience freefall for up to 40 seconds.
Pioneered over years of testing and equipment design tandem skydiving has proved both popular and very safe. Fully recognized by the Federal Aviation Authority tandem skydiving has been rewarded for its exceptional safety record through the high standards in equipment manufacturing and regular maintenance by the individual skydiving schools. The industry is represented by the United States Parachute Association (www.USPA.org).
