Child Abuse Prevention Foundation

The Foundation is best known for raising $12 million to build the A. B. and Jessie Polinsky Children's Center, the County's emergency shelter for abused and neglected kids. Opened in 1994, the Polinsky Center offers a full range of assessment and care programs to more than 4,000 children every year. Under the name of the Polinsky Children's Center Foundation, CAPF continues to support the Center by raising funds for the urgent and long-term needs of the children during and after their stay.

In addition to supporting the Polinsky Center, our Foundation continues to provide grants for prevention and treatment programs to help abused and at-risk children. Since its formation in 1981, the Child Abuse Prevention Foundation and its St. Germaine Auxiliary have distributed nearly $20 million for the care of abused kids in San Diego County.

The Foundation played an important role in the development of San Pasqual Academy, a model residential high school for foster children located near Escondido, just north of San Diego. CAPF raised $6 million for the renovation of the campus, which opened in September 2001. San Pasqual Academy will provide a stable home and education for 250 foster teenagers.

In 2001 CAPF launched the CAPF Foster Fund, a scholarship program for former foster children. In its first year CAPF awarded $43,000 in scholarships to 10 deserving recipients - young people who had overcome difficult beginnings to put themselves on the road to successful adulthood.

With your support, the Child Abuse Prevention Foundation will create positive and productive futures for San Diego's abused and at-risk children.
